Mixed Media 4-Drawer Organizer (DT Project for Reneabouquets)

I created this super fun project for a young lady who loves to organize! She also loves Graphic 45 and red/black is one of her favorite color schemes, so it wasn't hard to pull out the paper line, 'Olde Curiosity Shoppe'. This is such a fun, eclectic line, that it allowed me to adorn this piece with lots of fantastic pieces such as a handmade pair of spectacles and a lightbulb! I used tons of Bead Landing gears and tons of Prima products, such as the cute resin owl located on the side of the project and my very favorite staples to use: the Prima Clock Faces and Prima Clock hands...these three pieces came from Reneabouquets! I used tons of flowers by Prima, Wild Orchid Crafts and some Petaloo Botanica flowers from Renea's shop. There are also some Reneabouquet products on this project such as the Tiny Treasure Butterflies in Champagne Dreams, Glitter Glass in Diamond shade and some shabby metal scissors that I used as one of the drawer handles! I painted the piece with black Gesso paint. For added texture to the papers I sewed around the perimeter of each one, and distressed the edges with the Prima Distress tool. I used The Crafters Workshop "Art Is" stencil as well as a polka dot stencil by Heidi Swapp in various areas around the project with the Ranger Texture paste that can be found in Renea's shop. Prima DT call for 2015-2016

   I can't leave this DT call alone...I have to try!  I absolutely LOVE Prima...but then who doesn't? I had a hard time choosing which projects to enter, but finally decided on these yummy masterpieces! I have decided to feature a few altered items, as this is my area of creativity as well as a couple of "off the page" layouts. I love doing all things mixed media, with a shabby chic or vintage feel and just a touch of romanticism. I don't often create art unless there is some sort of story behind each piece...I can't just wing it...it needs to have an inspiration behind it. For example, maybe the piece is showing an undying eternal love for my husband ("Floating Frame LO" below), or possibly an irrevocable bond between a man and woman ("XO Altered Clock" below) , or maybe an inspirational way to live your "time" of life "(Mixed Media Shadow Box Clock" below).
    Prima allows me to mix and match paper lines, which I really love to do, because I cannot just stay within one collection. I love to take a little of this and put it with a little of that! For example, on my 6x6 Altered Canvas pictured below I was able to combine paper from an older collection (Romantique) with flowers from a newer collection (Stationer's Desk) They go perfectly together...which works perfectly for me when I alter products or do layouts. I simply pull out all my different Prima products and create my pièce de résistance!

   Since it's not fun to share my work with only myself,  I teach my crafting process through my Youtube videos and this blog as well as sharing my completed works on Pinterest and FB. I love to share my zest for all things craft related! It's an obsession, I must admit! :)

Mixed Media Wood Shadow Box (GDT Project for SaCrafters.com)

This is a small shadow box measuring 4 5/8 x 3 3/4 x 2 inches. Super cute and super small and a perfect project to complete in a day!! I love these type of projects! Don't get me wrong, there are those projects which takes forever and a month to complete and then there are those that you can sit down and complete in no time at all and have something adorable when you are finished! And this month (and next month) for my guest design team projects for SaCrafters, I have been given FIVE of these type of projects and I am luvin' every minute of it!! For this project I chose to keep the décor minimal so that the focus is centered in the middle of the "clock" area. Using a craft knife, I cut out the original clock hands at the bottom and used them inside the shadow box. Here is an original photo as seen on SaCrafters.com. Notice the hands at the bottom....those are what I removed to use inside...

 
I just wanted to show that something can always be altered and not use as its original design! I covered the inside and outside of the box with Prima paper from Jodi Lee's collection "Delight". This is a nicely sweet shabby pink design paper. I distressed the edges with the Prima distress tool and sewed around the edges of each of the pieces with my sewing machine. I chose to keep the outer perimeter of the shadow box visible, because I wanted to let the wood blend in with the project. I used the smallest word I had from SaCrafters that says "Hope" so that you could see it just inside the clock area. I placed the wooden clock hands from the box on top of the word. I used a few other pieces from SaCrafters to decorate this piece....those will be listed below the pictures. I used some Prima, Tim Holtz, Bead Landing gears, Wild Orchid Craft flowers and some chain (I needed to see a little bit of movement) on this project as well. Mixed Media 6x6 Canvas (DT Project for Reneabouquets)

I have been really wanting to pull out a canvas for some time now (I may do another again real soon!) and decided to work on a 6x6 size using a few different mixed media methods! I first began with a paper transfer method using Prima art basics 3D Matte Gel and some beautiful Marion Smith paper. I love doing this transfer technique because it allows the paper to look as if it is a part of the canvas versus just being glued on top. I did try something slightly different, not exciting, but different. As most of you know, with my projects, I often sew the papers and distress the edges...so I sewed the paper first before I adhered it to the canvas. I wondered how the thread would look once I started removing the top fiber layer of the paper. It appeared as I had expected. Most of the fibers of the paper came off around the thread (with a little work) but a lot of it stayed entwined with the thread...which I liked because it just added more texture!  Once I was done removing the outer layer of the paper, while it was still wet, I added a layer of the gel medium over the top. This protects any of the rough edges and seals in the design. I also added some stenciling with The Crafters Workshop "Art Is" design and Ranger Texture Paste. And then....I went to town with all of my layering. I used tons of yummy Prima product, most of which came from Reneabouquets. I will have the list of the product I used below the pics. I used some new flowers in Renea's shop along with a beautiful butterfly design...Tiny Treasures Champagne Dreams...a tone of peach and champagne. I also added one of the bronze shabby chic metal scissors from the shop and added a stunning shade of Reneabouquets glitter glass in the color of Sand around the canvas. Mixed Media Shadow Box Clock

This is a guest design team project for Sacrafters.com. I had fun with this shadow box! Of course, it is right up my alley being in the shape of a clock!  I had a quick 2 second thought of turning it into a real clock, but I knew that this what most of you would expect from me, so I kept it a regular shadow box! LOL! I wanted to choose colors that would accent the natural beauty of the raw wood, so I pulled out some old Prima paper, Romantique, to use for the inside and very back. I also used Prima flowers and butterfly from the Something Blue, Time Travelers Memories and Engraver collections. Believe it or not, these collections meshed very well together!  Since this was a "clock" in design, I wanted to have some gears in the design....so I used the gears from Bead Landing. I also used some Prima Resin pieces (wings and ampersand symbol) a Prima light bulb and clock face, and the new mixed media product by Prima Art Basics: Texture paste in White Sand (which dried kind of clear and I used Lindy's Stamp Gang in Dark Chocolate Truffle misted over the top), glass beads with 3D Matte Gel. Besides the wood shadow box, from SaCrafters, I also used some other wood elements from the shop (the words "imagine", "live" and the small "wish" hanging from the Tim Holtz ornate metal frame) I wanted to have a little bit of movement on the project, so I added some chain hanging at the bottom of the "imagine" word.
