Decorated A Sketch Book (DT Project for ThePieceByPiece)

Soooo, it's the last day of January and my January DT Project for ThePiecebyPiece has to be completed!!! I bought a plain sketchbook and decided to decorated the front and back covers to give as a gift to a family member!  I used the Graphic45 Communique and the Recollections (Micheal's Craft Store line) Union Square papers for this project.  The links to all products used from the store will be after all the photos. Since the G45 Communique paper line is vintage/grunge, I went with that same design concept. I used lots of Tim Holtz products, some real clock hands, a kitchen cabinet handle, and even made my own shabby chic fence using a ruler that I cut up!  I luv the fence!  Used a TCW chickenwire mask and some modeling paste to add more texture.  Even added some real chickenwire between the wings...you can barely see a small peekaboo--should of used a larger piece, I guess, but it's on the project!!   Anyhoo, here's the pics:
This is the front cover as a whole. Went with the "telephone" theme on the front.

Made my own metal eyeglasses here!

Love the wings behind the "Liberty" photo!  You can also see one of the huge clock hands!

Here's the back cover as a whole.  Went with the "vintage camera" theme on the back.

Usde a stencil and modeling paste for the rose.

Wanted the "vintage camera" that I fussy cut from the paper line and the key to 'hang' from the metal rod lke a signpost.
OK--here's the links to the products I used:

Shabby Chic Cards!

Soooo, I wondered if I should even post these cards or not, because they are nothing spectacular, but I had to create some cards for a few goodie packages that I wanted to send out in the mail to some very sweet gals, and the packages needed, well--a card!  I designed the same card for each package, but mixed up the papers a bit.  Cards are not my forte', but hey!  I'll give anything a go!!

All 3 cards at a glance!

Here's the card a little close up!

And here's the inside!

I sewed, distressed, and inked everything!  I don't mind that my sewing is not straight, in fact, sometimes I sew crooked on purpose 'cuz I think it adds a little character! I used the Kaisercraft (Pretty in Pink) line.  Hadn't used it in awhile and wanted to pull it back out and use it...feeling nostalgic I guess--'cuz it's sooooo old. NOT!   Didn't it come out last year?  I guess in the world of scrapbooking, that's old news--well, I still like it!!  Anyhoo, the heart on the inside of the card is up on dimensionals so that it would peek through the front of the card when the card is closed.  The sentiment on the inside of the card was printed onto the cardstock through my printer--before I started decorating the card, of course!  I also used my sewing machine to sew through the center of the sheer ribbon (the bow on the front of the card), and then pulled on the thread to crinkle it up.  Love doing this, 'cuz it just adds that fun touch of whimsy!  I topped it off with a flower from I Am Roses!

Thanks for checkin' in and I'll see you again next time!! Hugzzzzzz!

Tick Tock! It's Another Clock! My DT project for January for Discount Paper Crafts!

I had soooo much fun with this one!  I  had printed a photo of a clock that could be purchased online and used it for the inspiration for this months project for Discount Paper Crafts!  The lines and dimensions of this clock are what caught my eye.  Here's the pic:

So I started with a few pieces I had purchase at some sales...a decorative 2 sided frame (got it for $1.00!)--here's the pic:

I also purchased a wooden base for 25 cents!  Here's the pic:

And of course, I always purchase battery operated clocks (that work) to dismantle and re-use (working, of course) for my altered projects.  And here's what I ended up with (Love it!!):
This is the front.

This is the back.
Closeup of the clock on the front.

This is behind the clock!  If you open the swivel hook on the left side where Tim Holtz cash key ensemble is hanging, and "open the door", you can access and change the battery to the clock and take a peek at the beauty inside!
This is a closer view of the base area on the front side and charms hanging from the hinge on the left.
This is a closer view of the base area on the back side. I Love the wings!
Close up of the right side, where I added some Tim Holtz film strip ribbon all twirled up, just to add more texture.

Close up of the back side

See--the lines of generally the same as the picture of the 1st clock from above! I used great products from Cathie's store from top well-known brands!  I used tons of flowers!  I used several other paper lines such as Prima "Romance Novel"  Graphic 45 "Communique" and Pink Paislee "City Sidewalks". I used Gesso to paint and texture both wood pieces.  I used Rub N Buff paint (black and white) for the texture on the flowers and lots of other surrounding areas to add the grunge type feel! I even added a cabinet handle for the top to get the same feel as the original picture with a stopwatch type handle--also at the top! I was really wanting a project that had a romantic flair to it, adding in a little vintage-ness, tossing in a bit of grunge and topping it all of with some shabby chic-ness!  It's my favorite project I've done so far!! This particular piece is going to a friend--hope she loves it as much as I do!!
